Find Netherite in Minecraft (Updated June 2022)

To get Netherite in Minecraft, we are covering some important preparations first. But you can use the table below to directly skip to the search process.

What is Ancient Debris

Contrary to other armor materials in the game, Netherite doesn’t have a direct ore block in Minecraft. Instead, the block you should look for is called ancient debris. It is a material block in Minecraft that is immune to normal explosions. So, you can use TNT to clear out its surroundings without destroying ancient debris, and in turn, netherite.
Once you have mined ancient debris, you can convert it into Netherite. We have covered the conversion process later in the guide. Not to forget, wherever we mention ancient debris in the guide, we are, by extension, talking about Netherite and vice versa.

Best Tool for Mining Netherite or Ancient Debris

The best tool to mine ancient debris is a diamond pickaxe. So, unless you are on the best Minecraft seeds, you will have to wait till later on to collect Netherite in Minecraft. If you use any other pickaxe to mine ancient debris, it won’t drop any item. Moreover, you can use the best Minecraft enchantments to improve the effectiveness of your pickaxe.

Where Does Netherite Spawn in Minecraft

If you haven’t already guessed by the name, the Netherite only spawns in the Nether dimension of Minecraft. So, you first have to make a Nether portal in Minecraft before you start looking for Netherite. And while you are at it, you should also make a Potion of Fire Resistance to combat the Nether’s lava ocean.

Best Biomes for Netherite

Officially, there are no known biomes that have a higher rate of Ancient Debris (or Netherite) spawns. But as per the community and our testing, you should go for the following biomes:

Warped Forest: This biome is loaded with resources, is easier to find, and can help you make a base for your research.Basalt Deltas: Leaving the dangerous terrain aside, this biome has a low spawn rate for hostile mobs other than magma cubes. So, you can freely look for Netherite without getting attacked.Nether Wastes: This is the most common biome of the Nether. It is also the biome that most players are familiar with. And due to the repetitive blocks, it will also be easier to spot ancient debris while strip mining.

Conditions for Spawning of Ancient Debris

With the knowledge of ore blocks and Minecraft biomes in your hand, it’s time to focus on the most important part of our guide. Here are the necessary conditions for ancient debris to spawn in Minecraft:

With Minecraft’s ore generation, you can get a maximum of five ancient debris blocks per chunk. But on average, the actual spawn rate is close to two blocks. It commonly spawns between Y (height) levels 8 and 22. But as per Minecraft Wiki‘s testing, you can find most ancient debris at level Y=15.Unlike many other ore blocks, ancient debris spawns away from air exposure. It means that you will always find it surrounded by other blocks or lava. Finally, while spawning, the ancient debris loads up next to Netherrack, basalt, and Blackstone. So, look at the surroundings of these blocks while mining.

How to Find and Mine Ancient Debris

Now that we know where to look for ancient debris, it’s time to find and mine Netherite in Minecraft. Follow these steps to reach ancient debris and get netherite in the game.

  1. First, make a nether portal and travel into the Nether dimension. Then look for nether wastes or any other major biome unless you spawn into one.
  2. Then, start mining till you reach the height Y=15. You can use the “F3” key on the Java edition to view your coordinates. Meanwhile, on the Bedrock edition, you can turn them on in the game settings. Also, while mining, make sure to keep building blocks in your inventory to block any accidental lava breakout.
  3. Once you are at the netherite level, you can start mining in all directions. But instead, the better way is to use TNT to empty out the area around you until you discover ancient debris. Just make sure to hide behind strong blocks or drink the best Minecraft potions for your safety.
Note: You need 4 blocks of ancient debris to make one Netherite ingot. So, don’t leave the Nether without finding and collecting at least that many blocks.

How to Make Netherite from Ancient Debris

Once you have mined four blocks of ancient debris, you have to convert them into netherite. Follow these steps to do so:

  1. First, go back to the overworld. Netherite is a rare find, so you shouldn’t risk it. Then, craft a furnace or blast furnace. You only need 8 cobblestones to make a furnace, here’s the crafting recipe:
  2. Use the newly crafted furnace to smelt the ancient debris into Netherite scrap. You get one netherite scrap out of each ancient debris block.
  3. Finally, you have to combine four Netherite scraps with four gold ingots on a crafting table to craft a Netherite ingot. There is no shape to the recipe, so you can place the ingredients anywhere in the crafting area.
